Trev says:

I believe Chill was a role-playing game and this boardgame takes that world as its theme. All players, except one, start out as ‘good’, and the other starts out as rubbish. Sorry, I mean ‘evil’. The board is constructed from tiles as it is discovered. At the start of them game, just the gates and the cellar (I think) are placed at opposite corners, good and eveil players start at these respectively. During the game players draw new tiles and add them to the layout such that all the house rooms join up and all the same outdoor tiles form contiguous areas - e.g. all Orchard tiles must touch.

The good players have to make their way into the building, discover what evil master lives there (this changes from game to game), and how to kill him/her/it. Although they start strong, good characters may be taken over and have to join the evil side (or occasionally vice-versa). As such, you need a reasonable number of players to make the mechanism work well (say 5 or 6). Actions are driven by cards, which belong to either good or evil players.

Although the game is long and drawn out by modern standards, it is still a good experience to play from time to time - especially if you are into the horror theme.
