Cosmic Encounter

The game of alien conflict

Box cover (Games Workshop edition)

Publisher's Description:

In Cosmic Encounter, you play an alien race. You control five planets and twenty ships (tokens). The first player to get their tokens onto five planets in foreign sectors is the winner. Each player’s home sector is outlined in a distinctive colour. You can get tokens onto other player’s planets in two ways: by making a challenge during your own turn; or by "allying" with another player when they make a challenge. What makes Cosmic Encounter exciting is that each player also has a unique alien power which enables them to do something none of the other players can do. These powers change with each game.

Trev says:

I won’t say much about this as I haven’t played it often. It has quite a cult following (see rec.games.ce newsgroup which also has details of new powers regularly. There are at least three versions of the game available, but from what I read, this version is rather rare. Produced when Games Workshop was into bringing quality games to the public.
